Mistake #2 Gossip

“Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people.”

- Eleanor Roosevelt

At the beginning of this chapter, I sincerely wish all the female readers to leave. If you decide to stick with me, please remember this is your choice and you always have the precious right to leave. I am going to be a married man who is fully committed to my wife. I don’t need to please any ladies anymore. Because I want to say something that I hate but you may love: Gossip. Along the line whenever you find it offensive, please leave. Don’t read on. But a friendly reminder - stay calm, don’t break the laptop or tear the book. They’re innocent.

Generally speaking, I hate girls. My humble opinion is that 99% of them love gossip. On the other hand, I love girls. The topics they gossip about are tremendously appealing to me, which rightfully satisfy my curiosity.

In the 200+ student college, I experienced the same thing on the reality TV show: Gossip Girl. It was all about messed up relationships. Here I was, more complicated than that, in a college mixed up with a chaotic relationship with serious work.

Don’t ever think you can just be a spectator, having fun as an outsider. There was a saying in Cantonese: eating peanuts. It means engaging in gossip like watching a moive at home with a bag of peanuts in your hands. The truth of the matter is you’re just a stupid fish taking the gossip bait. The bitches are gossiping out loud on purpose. They were pulling strings. You have no control but to get closer to the flashing surreal reality.

These are the gossip, perhaps more accurately saying, which are rumors I had repeatedly come across.

“Our company is going through a bankruptcy.” What?!

“Digital marketing is standing on the cliff, collapsing.” What?!

“Do you know he(she) slept with the client?” What?!

Until today, I still don’t know the truth about all of the above. But I knew that every time I engaged with such gossip, it’s draining me out. Gossip is a hateful maggot. Even though you don’t produce it on your own, they will come to you. They will suck out every ounce of your blood before the realization that you are indeed dying.

The instant gratification is bright and strong to keep you stay. Once you wake up from the gossip world, midnight is over. You would realize you have spent another day talking relentlessly about gossip. And you haven’t done anything about the work tasks your manager had assigned you to do.
